Three nights of motorsports dedicated to The Diesel Doctor

TULARE – The Tulare County Fair, Sept. 13-17, this year delivers three nights of roaring trucks and tractors, dedicated to Jack Mendonca, known as the Diesel Doctor, in recognition of his long-time support of the events.

Mendonca was a long-time sponsor and participant in the motorsports events at the Fair, and was very devoted to the community and his family, noted Ron Adkins, a fellow member of the Tulare County Association of Demolition Derby Drivers. Mendonca died on the day of the Destruction Derby in 2016.

The 2017 motorsports series begins with an ATV Big Air Tour and tractor pull on Thursday, Sept. 14, presented by Max Kakl Powersports. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 5 to 12. Gates open at 6 p.m., the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets do not include gate admission to the fair.

Friday, Sept. 15, is the Monster Truck Tour. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $12 for children ages 5 to 12.

The ever-popular Demolition Derby takes the grandstands on Saturday, Sept. 16. Tickets are $25 for adults.

The 2017 Tulare County Fair features five nights of concerts, free with gate admission, kicking off with Night Ranger on Wednesday, and followed by RaeLynn on Thursday, The Ohio Players on Friday, Queen Nation on Saturday and Tower of Power on Sunday.

The Tulare County Fair offers a week of entertainment for the family, free with gate admission, including jugglers and drummers, educational activities for children, live local entertainment, an exotic animal display and petting zoo, Capt’N Jack’s Spareribs, a classic big-top circus and more.

Carnival wristbands sell for $20 each prior to Sept. 12, and $30 during Fair week. A FastPass upgrade is available for $15, allowing wristband-holders to go to the front of the line for all carnival rides.

Fairgoers can compete in the corn dog-eating contest or the pie-eating contest, or apply to perform on one of the community stages during the Fair.
