Tulare County Fair Announces Parade Grand Marshals

TULARE – Long-time community supporters Manuel and Dollie Faria will serve as Grand Marshals of this year’s Tulare County Fair.

The parade kicks off the fair at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 1042 E. Tulare Ave. Fair gates open at 11 a.m. All children under 12 years old are admitted free; parade entrants ages 13-17 will receive one free fair admission.

The Faria family has been actively involved in the Tulare County Fair and World Ag Expo for many years. Their family was named Dairy Family of the Year this year, and Mrs. Faria was named Woman of the Year by the Tulare Chamber of Commerce in 2005.

The Farias were both born and raised in Tulare. Mrs. Faria served as 4H leader for many years, including helping the children show their livestock at the fair, and volunteered with World Ag Expo for 20 years.

“I always was a fan of the fair,” Mrs. Faria says. “The fair is a wonderful event for our children because it gives them a chance to show their livestock. It is important for us to have the fair for them.”

The Faria family has dairies and grows alfalfa, corn, wheat and nuts, Mrs. Faria noted. She and her husband of 65 years have three sons, eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

“This is quite an honor,” Mrs. Faria added. “I do what I can to support the community and I have made such wonderful friends over the years.”

The Tulare County Fair is Sept. 14-18. The headliner concert series features Gin Blossoms on opening night; WAR on Thursday, Sept. 15; Colt Ford on Friday, Sept. 16; En Vogue on Saturday, Sept. 17; and The Boxmasters, featuring Billy Bob Thornton, on Sunday, Sept. 18, all free with paid fair admission. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. on the Budweiser Stage. Fair admission is $8 for adults; $5 for children ages 6-12. The fair will offer live local entertainers; new food booths; a huge carnival with new rides; and a wide variety of entertainment, free with gate admission. Carnival wristbands are available for $20 in advance of the fair or $30 after Sept. 14.
