Fast eaters and young performers wanted for Tulare County Fair

TULARE – The Tulare County Fair, Sept. 14-18, is challenging fair-goers of all ages to compete in fun contests for bragging rights and prizes.

Corn dog lovers will compete to see who can down the most dogs in just eight minutes during the corn dog-eating contest, which begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. The entry fee is $10 if paid by Monday, Sept. 12, or $15 thereafter. Entries will be accepted on the day of the contest. Contestants will compete for a total of $800 in prize money. KJUG morning on-air personalities Drew & Tory will emcee the contest.

Pie lovers will have their own competition this year, beginning at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. The first prize-winner will receive passes for two to a meet-and-greet with The Boxmasters, featuring actor Billy Bob Thornton, and reserved seating at the concert. The second prize-winner will receive two barbecue dinners at the fair; third prize will win two funnel cakes. Participants must be 18 years or older. Pre-registration is $10 by Sept. 14; on site registration is $15. April Skye, 99.7 on-air personality, will emcee the contest.

Talented local kids are also invited to participate in the third annual Kids Talent Auditions at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, to compete for cash and prizes. Each contestant, age 14 and younger, must enter prior to auditions, no later than Tuesday, Sept. 13. Auditions are first-come, first-served. The entry form is available at tcfair.org. Contestants must provide music on a CD, no longer than two minutes, unless performing a cappella. KHTZ on-air personality Nikki B will judge the performers.

Twelve finalists will be selected to move on to the Kids’ Talent Showcase, to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. The winner of the showcase will receive $150 and other prizes. First and second runners-up will also receive cash and prices. Mike Pesto, MY97.5 morning host, will emcee the finals.

The 2016 Tulare County Fair this year will feature Gin Blossoms on opening night; WAR on Thursday, Sept. 15; Colt Ford on Friday, Sept. 16; En Vogue on Saturday, Sept. 17; and The Boxmasters, featuring Billy Bob Thornton, on Sunday, Sept. 18, all free with paid fair admission.
